Merry Christmas everyone! I am excited to be a guest blogger
here at SNR! The project I will be sharing with you I have been
thinking about doing for well over a year, but of course just never
found the time to do and here we are a few days away from Christmas and
it was time to get it done!
I love making home decor items
for my home. It gives me joy from not only creating the project but to
display it in my home for others to see makes me smile. I have a small
table near my front door that I have an altered wooden mailbox with our
last name on it. I needed to replace it during the holidays, so this
is what I came up with.
To make this project you need the following:
1. Several pattern papers (I used about 13 different papers from Basic Grey and Boxer Scrapbooks)
2. A 1 1/2" scalloped square punch
3. Glimmer mist
4. Flowers and crystal spray (Prima)
5. Glitter stars (Melissa Frances)
6. Paper snowflakes (Making Memories
7. Alphabet stickers (GCD Studios)
8. Mini brads (Boxer Scrapbooks)
9. Wooden mailbox (Micheals)
10. Cardstock (Bazzill)
11. Ranger stickles
12. sewing machine
First you need to punch out the scalloped squares. I used 63 squares for this project.
Then
you will spray the inside of the wooden mailbox with the glimmer mist
and take a foam brush to make sure all the mist is distributed around
the area. I only did the inside of the lid and part way into the
mailbox, as well as the edges around the lid. Also mist the mailbox
flag.
While the mist is drying on the mailbox, pull out your sewing machine so you can begin to stitch the squares together.
Once
you have 7 squares sewn together, do another row and then sew those 2
rows together. Repeat several times until you have enough of a piece to
cover the mailbox.
A
tip for using sewing machines for your paper arts. Try to use a sewing
machine only for your paper arts. If you are a quilter like I am, I
never use my quilting sewing machine for my paper arts, as the adhesive
will gunk up the needle and the insides of the machine. It could
eventually ruin the machine. I have an old Singer that I use for my
paper arts, it's a 10 year old machine I bought at Walmart for $100.
You want to invest in something that will last you, but nothing too
cheap that will break after the 7th use.
Back
to the project, the next step is to add adhesive to the front of the
lid and the back end of the mailbox and add some pattern paper. Trim
away the edges.
Then lay the sewn paper rows
onto the base of the mailbox and attach with adhesive. My favorite
adhesive is my 3M ATG gun. Best thing ever invented, (outside of
chocolate that is).
Now
embellish the side of the mailbox with flowers, alphabet stickers,
glitter, and anything else you want to do to it. I attached most of
everything with the hot glue gun to secure everything in place.
Thank you SNR for having me be a guest blogger here and I do hope that I have inspired you all to make yourself a beautiful home decor mailbox.
